Soulsong #471 – How Do I Rid Myself of Unwanted Thoughts?
It’s contrary to universal law to try to get rid of anything, for that which I focus on will grow in my experience – that or something equally unwanted. So…even though thoughts that I’ve identified as negative and self-sabotaging keep jumping into my cranium, it won’t do much good to have a tug-of-war with them.
However, it might be a step in the right direction to get mad at these thoughts if I’m feeling powerless over them. Anger is a significant step up the emotional/vibrational scale from feeling helpless.
And it’s easy to become angry at negative thought patterns when I realize that they are the only obstacles to the manifestation of my desires. For there is no problem, pain, or disappointment that has ever entered my experience without being summoned by my unhappy thoughts.
So if I’m feeling a victim of my downer or anxious thoughts, I can punch a pillow, yell at them (in private – I wouldn’t want to embarrass them or myself), or flip them off (using a rubber band around my wrist, perhaps).
“I’m mad as Hades and I’m not going to take it anymore” will help me regain a feeling of being in control of my own gray matter. And then, in days to come, I’ll keep gradually moving up the emotional scale, experiencing mere resentment of my wayward thought patterns and eventually shrugging them off.
Ultimately, I may well find them gone, leaving hardly a trace.
