Soulsong #490 – Which Belief System Is Right?
Any belief system, any religion might be the right one for me. And any belief system, any religion might be the wrong one for me.
If my belief system helps me to feel connected to Something More, if it helps me to feel uplifted, inspired, and assisted in everyday life, it’s likely the right one for me.
If, conversely, it feeds a sense of guilt and unworthiness, leaves me feeling bound to dogmatic pronouncements from authorities, or requires me to donate money or time when I’d rather not, then I’d better shop around.
All major religions began with powerful inspiration and noble and pure intentions. All have provided comfort and hope to adherents. And all have done humanity a disservice to the extent they demand allegiance as the one and only way to God.
Whatever my spiritual or religious path, I practice it in a live-and-let-live way. The temple, church, synagogue, study group, or sweat lodge that means so much to me might mean zilch to other people I know. So what? I allow others to find their way as I find mine.
This is a planet of great diversity, and I’m thankful it’s not a place of boring uniformity. No other person needs to view things exactly as I do in order for me to revel in what I’ve come to know.
